What are Gates and Channels?
In your bodygraph there are 64 Gates and 36 Channels. The Gates are like specific energy points — each with its own theme and its own gift. The Channels are the lines that connect Gates between Centers, and they create flows of energy through your design.
The 64 Gates are linked to the I Ching — the 64 hexagrams — and each Gate represents a specific aspect of life. When a Gate is defined in your chart, you have an active access to its theme. When it's open, you're open to learning about it through others.
A Channel is created when two Gates in different Centers are defined and connected to each other. The Channel represents a complete flow of energy between the two Centers — a specific gift or theme that runs through your design.
The 64 Gates
Each Gate has a unique energy and a unique theme. Gate 1, for example, is about self-expression and creativity. Gate 10 is about loving yourself and living in the present. Gate 34 is about power and strength. Gate 57 is about intuition and clarity.
When a Gate is defined in your chart, you have a consistent access to its theme. It's a gift you can always count on. When a Gate is open, you're open to learning about that theme through others — and you can develop a deep wisdom about it.
The 64 Gates together form a complete system of human experience. Each Gate represents an aspect of what it means to be human. Your chart shows which of these aspects are active in you — and which you're here to learn about.
The 36 Channels
The Channels are where the magic happens. When two Gates in different Centers are connected, they create a Channel — a complete flow of energy with a specific gift. The Channel represents a talent or theme that's an integrated part of your design.
There are 36 Channels, and each has its own name and its own energy. Channel 10-20, for example, is called the Channel of Awakening and is about living in the present and expressing yourself authentically. Channel 34-10 is called the Channel of Exploration and is about power and self-expression.
When you have a defined Channel, you have a consistent access to its gift. It's a talent that's always with you, regardless of the situation. Channels are often the most tangible gifts in a design — the things you've always been able to do, without knowing why.
How Channels and Gates shape you
Your defined Channels and Gates shape you deeply. They show which gifts you carry from birth — the talents that have always been there, even when you haven't noticed them. They're your fixed energy, the one you can always count on.
Your open Gates show where you're here to learn. They're places of potential and wisdom, where you can develop a deep understanding by experiencing them through others. Open Gates aren't weaknesses — they're invitations to grow.
When you understand your Channels and Gates, you understand better why some things come naturally to you and others don't. You understand why some talents have always been there. You understand why some themes keep recurring in your life. It's a deep form of self-knowledge.
Living with your Channels and Gates
Living with your Channels and Gates is about embracing your gifts and being open to learning. Your defined Channels are your strengths — the talents you can always count on. Your open Gates are your invitations to grow.
When you understand your Channels, you can begin to use them consciously. You can trust your natural talents and let them lead you. You can stop doubting the things that have always come naturally to you, and instead embrace them as gifts.
The most beautiful thing about understanding your Channels and Gates is seeing the full picture of yourself. You're not just a Type or a Strategy — you're a unique combination of Gates and Channels, gifts and themes, that together create who you are. And that's something beautiful to see.
